I finally figured out how to implement the League Standings report into the database and that will make posting the weekly results and overall standings as easy as a few clicks. The results have been posted here and on Facebook. Let us know if you see any errors or missing data.

The creation of the LPDGC Board of Directors and it’s members has been established and voted on. The members elected into the positions for 2013-2014 are:

The results that I have posted for the League have been re-posted due to an error in the calculations. It was a rounding error and I have since corrected the issue. Each week the results will be posted just like the ones below and the League Standings page will be updated with point totals. Sorry for the confusion this may have caused.

Meet the Candidates

As discussed, we will be holding the first club Board of Directors election on Wednesday May 29 before Week 4 round begins. All members will receive a paper ballot and will be asked to vote for 4 candidates to comprise the LPDGC Board of Directors. The general roles and responsibilities of the positions will include but is by no means limited to:

Regularly scheduled meetings (quarterly), open to all club members, to review current action items.
2 year commitment.
TD roles in club events such as league and tournaments.
Sponsorship acquisition and club promotion.
Representation of club members for club decisions and its direction.

Your candidates are:

Started playing 26 years ago with a 165gm Whamo Frisbee. Before discs were invented. Formed the LPDGC in 2001. President until 2011. Looking to bring the knowledge gained from running the club to help it continue to succeed. Other interests are camping, fishing, and riding my motorcycle

I have been a club member for 5 years or so now. I learned how to play disc golf here in Longmont and have enjoyed all the new friends I have met while doing so. I believe the disc golf community here in Longmont as well as other cities is an important part of a maintaining a balanced park system for all to enjoy. I was a very active member in the building of the course at centennial along with a select group of others who put their hard work into the cause. I would like to continue putting my efforts into leading this club into the future in a professional but fun manner. I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty in the digging on new holes or the extra concrete needed on the end of the tee pads at centennial for a “follow through area”. I will continue to put my garage and tools available to stage and complete the improvements needed at Centennial Park and Loo Miller. I have seen the population of all ages of people and families enjoying the courses here in town. I do believe we as a club have the ability to promote the sport even further through providing clean, safe and well maintained courses for all to use. I enjoy what the community has given to me through the use of their parks for my enjoyment which makes me want to give back to the community through my services on helping maintain and build the existing courses we have. May we all throw well and respect others around at the same time. As a group we can achieve great things.

My name is Tim Brainard PDGA number 44945. I started playing disc golf in 2004 after moving to Fort Collins from Boston MA. A neighbor played Edora every Sunday morning and he asked me to join him. I was hooked after that. I played every Sunday for about a year and a half until I was deployed to Iraq. I packed my Magnet and Sidewinder and went to the desert well there I would practice putting to relieve stress and think about home. No baskets so I just putted at a pole. When I came home in late 2007 I went back to playing Sundays with my neighbor. After that life got in the way for a little bit I moved to Conifer 2009 where I started playing again. That’s where I started improving the most. I would play three to four times a week trying different discs and different styles. In 2010 I joined the PDGA and played my first tournament that year as an intermediate. I placed 8th at Colorado State Championship that made me want to play more tournaments. In 2011 I only played tags because of a new job that was taking up a lot of my time. In 2012 I signed up for next tournament I went on to placing 6th in advanced at the Grateful Disc. I played three more tournaments that year along with four one day events. I have played two tournaments this year and hope to play more. As a member of the board I would do my best to bring more events to Longmont such as a doubles tournament and making Lunacy a C-tier event. I would also like to expand our club further in to Boulder County. I believe we could get more members by using both the current courses in Boulder for league and Sunday tags. I would plan to do more travel tags on Sundays and interact more with the surrounding clubs as well. I would like to work on getting more courses emplaced in the surrounding area and getting the community more involved.
Bryan Hollis
I started playing disc golf in May 2011 in Longmont. I have had an amazing time being a part of this fantastic league and meeting all of you phenomenal guys. I try to be a friend to everyone and always try to see the bright side of things, on and off of the course. I am a very positive person, even in difficult times. I am easy to approach and try to be fair and listen to all sides before coming to a conclusion. Even though I’ve only played the sport for a short amount of time, I find myself very active- whether it be rounds with buddies, regular league attendance, traveling to sanctioned tournaments, and seeking out courses when on family vacations. I currently work at a men’s transition sober house, and I often drag them out to throw rounds with me. These experiences are fulfilling in that I’m able to share my passion in teaching them fundamentals, and promoting an “up and coming” sport. I think I’d be a great member of the board because I am very connected with my community. Not only do I inspire participation in disc golf, but I think I could also motivate members to become more involved in our community as individuals as well as league members. Please consider this Letter of Intent as a general request to become a member of our Board. I’m really excited to be in a position to commit as a Board member. I look forward to working together and implementing consistency and change within our club. Thank you for considering me.
Sean Lewis
In addition to basically living on our courses, I’m very interested in becoming more active in the club. Specifically, I would like to oversee the marketing of our club, and gaining awareness of our beloved sport. I believe that the sport of disc golf is an amazing, and highly marketable product just waiting to be discovered by many of our local businesses. In the past, I was highly active in The Greater Rochester Disc Golf Club as they prepared for, and hosted the Am Worlds. We had many local vendors as sponsors to raise money for the event. My entire life has been centered around sales and marketing. I’ve spent over a decade in retail automotive sales developing relationships, marketing my product lineup, and closing deals in a turbulent negotiating environment. I currently have relationships with a few notable businesses and breweries in the area that I believe would sponsor events. I would also like to see some paid advertising on our website, and hole sponsorship. On top of marketing the club, I also wish to be involved with the town, and any possible course additions or improvements. I will maintain a steady presence at town meetings to ensure that the club is represented. With the incredibly active lifestyle in Colorado, disc golf should be an easy sale. It has steady growth in players, explosive growth in number of courses, and is starting to get media attention. It also happens to be pretty fun. Businesses should jump at the opportunity to get on board, and I hope to be able to prove that with your blessing. Thank you for your consideration, and I’ll see you all at tags!

Week 2, Handicap Wins, Adjusted Scores

Club members have decided: The league format will continue using a handicap adjusted scoring system to determine points for overall league standings. We had a vote before our round this week, and with a close margin, handicap scoring won out. I understand that some feel the divisions implemented this year may seem redundant, but it does allow the club to award more prizes at the end of the season.

Just like last year, I have implemented a rule that all first recorded round scores will only award a player 1 point. I forgot about this when posting last weeks scores, so Week 1 scores have been adjusted. This ensures fairness in the league due to players not having an established handicap playing against players who do. To sum it up, your first week of league (no matter when), will only award you 1 point in the league standings and you will not be calculated in the player pool for that week. Once you have played a minimum of 1 round, a handicap will be calculated and used to form your adjusted score which will be updated and used for subsequent weeks.

Week 1 is in the books!!

Thank you everyone for coming out and braving the elements. We got awful lucky with the rain letting up just enough to get 18 semi-dry holes in.

Keep an eye on here and Facebook this coming week, as I will be posting some important votes/polls regarding the club and league. I would like everyone to contribute, so please make sure you let other members know.

Week 1 of League Rescheduled to May 8, 2013

2013 Summer League is upon us and the weather is not cooperating as hoped. We will push the first week of league back 1 week to May 8 in hopes that the weather and daylight time are better suited for a fun and safe round of disc golf. I am sorry for the last minute change.

I have had a hard time deciding on the format for league this year and that is one of the reasons for the delay in posting information. I have heard many opinions from club members and I value all the feedback and input I have received. I had 1 goal in mind for this year and that was to award more prizes to more players. That being said, I think I have come up with a format that will facilitate that goal.

Divisions — This year we will have 3 handicap divisions. Advanced, Intermediate, and Recreational. Each division will compete separately using a point system devised from handicap adjusted scores. The top 3 point earners after 16 weeks will be awarded prizes and a trophy. That will allow the club to award 9 total players with a trophy and prizes – the most ever in the history of the Longs Peak Disc Golf Club.

Club Tags and Membership packages will be available for purchase tomorrow (I’ll be at Loomiller just in case due to the last minute change in schedule), Week 1 on May 8, and every week after. $20 gets you the 2013 Club Tag and your choice of a Club stamped disc or Club t-shirt (while supplies last).

2013 Club Membership Packages

The 2013 season is here and Longs Peak Disc Golf Club is ready to sell its membership packages and hold its first tag match!! This years membership package will include both the 2013 Club Bag Tag and a newly designed Club branded t-shirt for $20. We will be accepting cash and credit cards this year as well. We will begin selling the 2013 Club Membership package on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Centennial Park at 9:45am. We will also hold our first tag match for this year on the same day at 10:30am. CTP prizes and a $1 raffle will be available.

We will be selling them through out the year, and you will receive the same package, with the next lowest tag available when purchased. Information on how to purchase a Club Membership package after Sunday, February 10, 2013 will be posted on here and on our Facebook page later this month.

The club will also be selling 2013 Club stamped discs made by Discraft. If you purchase a Club Membership package and Club stamped disc at the same time, the special combined price will be $25 and available to the first 30 Club Membership packages sold. If you choose to not purchase the Club stamped disc at the same time you purchase your Club Membership package, or after the first 30 packages are sold, they will be sold for $10 each on a first come – first serve basis while supplies last.

Club Membership packages are available to anyone, from anywhere, no matter if you plan to play in our Club sponsored Leagues or Tournaments or not. Longs Peak Disc Golf Club is going into its 13th year and is looking forward to growing the Club membership base and Club sponsored events. More information on Club sponsored events, including summer league and tournaments, will be posted here and on Facebook in the next couple weeks. Club Update for September

Some announcements and updates for late August and September.

*The League Award Party is scheduled for Sun. September 9 at Centennial Disc Park. Please contribute to this forum postwith some ideas for food and prizes.

*The league standings have been updated and finalized. Remember, your 4 worst weeks will be dropped from your total to determine awards. Also posted are your weekly scratch scores for reference.
*The League Ace Pool ($390) was not won and will be used to fund the Award Party.
*We will be holding our annual club sponsored tournament – Lunacy IV – near the end of September. The tentative date for the event is 9/30. More information will be posted in the next week or so.
*We will be holding a Doubles Tournament this fall near the beginning/middle of October. Again, more information will be posted when available.
*An impromptu $5 Random Doubles match will be held on Wednesdays around 6pm during the fall. We will alternate courses each week. We played at Centennial this week (8/29) and Loomiller next week (9/5). Come out and join the fun.

League Award Party

2012 Summer League Award Party

Date: Sunday September 9, 2012
Time: 10a – 3p
Location: Centennial Disc Park / Hole 19

The day will start with a 18 hole tag match just like every other Sunday Church match. Following the round will be lunch (food and soft drinks) served in the gazebo. Feel free to bring food, snacks, or drinks to share with everyone. If you plan to bring anything, post it in the forum so we don’t have too much of one thing. Shortly after lunch we will play a 9 hole crap-shoot match with a Ring-o-Fire and prizes & awards to follow after.

Feel free to bring a guest, spouse, and/or family for a fun day of disc golf and prizes!!

As always, if the Ace Pool is not hit in the next 2 rounds, the money will be used to fund the party and prizes.
